Welcome to the Light Painting Blog !

Welcome to the Light Painting Blog !

Over the last years, the light painting community has been continuously growing bigger and bigger. New people are drawn into the magical, addictive world of Light Painting every day. Daily I see new add requests in social media from people I don’t yet know. It’s such an amazing feeling to see how a common passion can bring people together. We may be from different locations, nationalities, and backgrounds but through Light Painting, we come closer.

How we got this idea

I started to be actively involved with Light Painting some years ago. One of the first places I found myself, again and again, was the blog of Jason Page www.lightpaintingphotography.com
That site was, and still is, packed with information of all kinds, helpful and exciting stuff for beginners and experienced users alike.
There is also some sites from single artists, facebook groups or communities like LPWA where one kind find interesting stuff. We will cover most of the known ones in a future post.
Recently we even saw the birth of a digital Magazine dedicated to Light Painting.
However according to the number of people getting into Light Painting every day, one would expect to find even more sources of information, without having to spend hours searching.
This is how the idea of this blog was born (somewhere between some beers with Janne and me..)

What to expect from the Light Painting Blog

We might not have much experience in running a blog, but we are definitely gonna give it our best. We are eager to grow and learn, and that’s our motivation. We have a lot of ideas on how to make this a great place for people who has a passion for Light Painting. Hopefully, we are gonna get your thoughts and suggestions too.

Here is a couple of things we are planning to start with.

We split our blog  into 3 main categories:

  • LEARN

  • INSPIRE

  • EXPOSE

In LEARN group we are gonna have different sections like

  • Tutorials

from beginners to more advanced users, there will be something for everybody

  • DIY

Create your own tools!

  • Gear Reviews

Technical reviews and opinions for light painting tools or other related equipment.

In the INSPIRATION category, you will find

  • The Art of Light Painting, by Patrick Rochon

We are really happy and excited to have Patrick joining our effort on this blog. He is gonna be writing about the actual art process which is a subject we feel that also needs to be addressed.

  • Art Therapy

This is a special section hosted by Jukka Laine who has been working with Light Painting as an alternative way of treatment with special groups.

  • Interviews

with interviews from famous light painting artists

  • Case Studies

Articles about specific projects  with a behind the scenes point of view

  • Throwback Thursday

Interesting facts from the past related to Light Painting.

EXPOSE is a category where we are gonna be providing a display for new and established artists alike.

We are gonna be featuring an Artist Of The Month section. Every month a member of our author team will select one artist whose work is gonna be highlighted.

Everyone loves challenges, right? Apart from informing you about open internet contests and events in the web, we also thought to create our own “Challenge of the Week” section.

Every week we will announce a theme. The Artist of the month will be the judge. Anyone can submit a photo through Instagram. The winner will be selected by the judge and will be featured in a special “Photo of the Week ” section both on our blog and our social media sites.

Upcoming Events will also have a place here. Everyone who has an event coming up, related to Light Painting, like an Exhibition, a show a workshop etc is welcome

More sections to come .. 😉

We are hoping to inspire people to get more actively involved with Light Painting. To help evolve the artform of Light Painting itself and become more visible and known to even more people.

So welcome to the birth of this! May we all enjoy the ride!
