IDL 2018 Light Painting Activities

Updated with a couple of more events!

The Unesco proclaimed  International Day of Light on Mai 16th is almost a month away and I thought I ‘ll make a post about all the LP activities that are organised around the world from members our the LP community.

But wait.. what is this International Day of Light?

ok.. for those who didn’t get the memo…

Unesco, after the successful “International Year of Light 2015” has decided to proclaim 16th of Mai each year as the International Day of Light.

As they state in the official proclamation:

The proclamation of this annual International Day will enable global appreciation of the central role that light and light-based technologies play in the lives of the citizens of the world in areas of science, technology, culture, education, and sustainable development.

Check out the official video below

Sergey Churkin ( LPWA ) had the idea of proclaiming the International Light Painting Day ( ILPD)

The idea was to try to get people to organise LP activities around the globe, from small to big scale in order to attract more people to LP. Great idea right?

So let’s see what we have…

Worldwide / ADD YOUR PIECE OF LIGHT TO THE WORLD – January – May 2018

Piece Outwhich is a collaborative mosaic-making website developed by Dan Chickteamed up with LPWA to create a 456 pieces collaborative Light Painting image. Using Van Gogh’s “Starry Night” as the image, each participant is assigned some parts of the image and has to create that part using light painting. The software then put the parts back to where it should go and the result will be impressive!

At the moment there are still some tiles missing but its gonna be ready pretty soon at this pace! If you want to join at the last moment better be fast.

The final image will be printed and presented on Mai 16th on the main event.
